The attraction of the Web is that each site gives us a different perspective on the world. I've stumbled across some that fired me up with enthusiasm for actions that I never dared before visiting them! In thinking about the poetry, art, science and logic that make up the best Web sites I made a discovery.
Muses in Web design
Ancient cultures revered all forms of creative expression. They understood its magical power to uplift and heal us. But on our way to the twenty-first century we somehow lost touch with that wellspring. Now we're correcting the imbalance by using the Web to share creative expression globally. People are being drawn to the Muses on the Web.
These Goddesses enlighten people by motivating their virtues and increasing their wisdom. We are seeing these effects as strangers help and encourage one another on the Web. Knowledge of other people's views is awakening impulses that have been dormant in us for a long time.
Life is a struggle where the disadvantaged usually lose. Centuries ago humans found ways to help those of us unable to keep up with the rest. And we learnt that integrating disabled folk into regular life enriched the whole society. Not many know that the Web has become a barrier for those with low or no or color-blind vision--who might need it most.
A new attitude and generosity are required to make sites universally usable. But there are also good, financial reasons to improve Web design.
